The packaging company Rivne Flex has invested in green energy and installed solar panels at its production facility. The panels cover an area of 0.1 hectares and have a capacity of 200 kWh. On favorable sunny days, the company will operate entirely on alternative energy, and on average, the panels will cover 20% of production needs per year.

The project was launched before the full-scale invasion, but the company was forced to put it on hold due to the war. In 2023, the team returned to this initiative and implemented everything in 60 days.

"The war has once again confirmed the importance of Ukraine's energy independence and security. And it is the development of local renewable energy generation that contributes to the system's flexibility and resilience to security challenges. As packaging manufacturers, particularly for essential products, it was key for us to ensure uninterrupted operations. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, our production has been out of operation for only three days, as we were responsible for the country's food sector," said Mykola Livshuk, founder and CEO of Rivne Flex.

The company has invested UAH 6 million in the installation of solar panels as part of the government's 5-7-9 program. The payback period of such a plant will be approximately 3-4 years, provided that the cost of electricity does not increase significantly.

"For us, this is not only an investment in efficient resource savings and improved business profitability , but also an investment in minimizing the negative impact of our activities on the environment and in the green future of our planet. It is gratifying to know that we are able to reduce the load on the overall system and create packaging that is now 20% solar-powered. We hope that our example will inspire other Ukrainian businesses to accelerate the energy transformation of our country and move towards the EU," Bogdan Livshuk, Rivne Flex COO, told

The Rivne-based packaging manufacturer plans to further develop its sustainability initiatives, follow the principles of the circular economy, and work towards zero waste production. In addition to switching to green energy, the Rivne Flex team recycles production waste into pellets, which are then used to create useful household items such as buckets, furniture fittings, scissor handles, etc. Read more about the company's CSR initiatives.
